Ubuntu Desktop 1

It looks like perhaps you either don't have any videocard drivers set up, or X is improperly configured... I'm not sure how Ubuntu's kernel is set up, but chances are it has most of it's drivers loading up as modules at start-up, where it then checks which ones are working and unloads those that don't. What kind of videocard do you have?
